If you are in West Maui and fancy some sushi, the newest addition to the Kaanapali dining scene - Macadangdang Bar and Grill, is just the place.
Macadangdang only opened its doors in October 2021 and is already making waves with its fresh, local-infused Hawaiian sushi.
About the Restaurant -
From the award-winning Filipino chef who brought you "Joey's Kitchen," Macadangdang presents a new concept in Hawaiian-Filipino Fusion cuisine - a creative intertwining of the island’s Asian and Polynesian flavors.
Unsurprisingly, in the short time it’s been open, the restaurant has already been earning rave reviews from the locals. Sushi, sake, and specialty cocktails are just a few of the mouth-watering treats on offer and guests can opt to enjoy their meals al-fresco - on the restaurant's stylish patio area, or within its chic yet relaxed interior.
Macadangdang is open from 3-5 pm for happy hour and from 5-9 pm for dinner. Contract information below for specific hours & days. There’s live music planned for the coming months too!
How It Got Started -
Macadangdangs is the brainchild of Joey Macadangdang’s - the chef who brought Joey’s Kitchen to Maui in 2015. Joey’s Kitchen was his first solo venture following his multi award winning stint as head chef at local fine dining favorite Roy’s.
Building on the success of Joey’s Kitchen, Macadangdangs is the natural evolution of Joey’s passion for Hawaiian cuisine and his desire to share his culinary creations with the people of Maui.
The Menu -
The menu features a blend of traditional and modern dishes with a varied selection of appetizers, entrees, and yummy desserts. A dedicated sushi bar is central to the restaurant's whole concept, and offerings such as Macadangdang Sushi Special (comprising smoked ahi, avocado/cucumber roll, spicy bonito flakes, garlic aioli, tobiko, and micro green onions) are a must-try.Appetizers include ‘Pistachio Wasabi Ahi’ and ‘Roasted Golden Beets & Goat Cheese Mousse'. If you can’t decide, then ‘Banga Banga’ (Chef Inspiration of Six Tasting Creation) is the ideal choice.
Fish features heavily on the entree menu with favorites such as ‘Asian Style Seafood Boullabasise’ and ‘Salmon Laing’. A variety of delicious meat dishes such as ‘Pork Belly Lechon’ and ‘Jidori Chicken Breast Inasal’ complete the land and sea offerings.
Of course, a visit to Macadangdangs is not acceptable without sampling one of their delectable desserts. Try ‘Ube Cheesecake’ or ‘Banana Lumpia with Caramel Sauce & Macadamia Nut Brittle’.
Outdoor Experience
In Kaanapali, the setting is friendly, non traditional, & open air. Dining outdoors is for guests with reservations. However, if you choose to be seated inside, there is air flow, high ceilings and a massive bar.
The Kaanapali location is easily assessable off highway 30 at the Kaanapali Fairway Shops. Staying in Kaanapali, take advantage of the Trolly.
How to Get There
Located in the Fairway Shops at Ka'anapali, at 2580 Kekaa Dr, Lahaina, HI 96761 - just off the Honoapiilani Highway.
In between Whalers Village & the Royal Lahaina Beach Bar, Macadangdangs is easily visible. Heading south from Kapalua, if you pass the Kaanapali golf course and light, you have gone too far.
Macadangdangs Bar & Grill is definitely a welcome addition to the community and is sure to be a favorite of both locals and visitors alike. Whether it’s a date night, a special occasion, or just the desire to splurge on some really good sushi, Macadangdang has something for everyone. See you there!
